How Acupuncture and
dry-needling treatments support ACC injury?

Acupuncture stimulates the secretion of natural healing proteins and immune factors within the body to encourage fast repair of injured tissue. It improves blood flow, reduces nerve activation to control pain, and prevents ongoing inflammation and swelling to enhance fast recovery.

Acupuncture also stimulates the production of endorphins to help control pain and create a deep sense of relaxation during and after treatment.

What injury types may acupuncture assist with?

  • Neck, back and shoulder, and elbow injuries.
  • Neck, spine, and disk injury and inflammation (with or without sciatic pain).
  • Hip, knee, and ankle injuries.
  • Muscle and tendon pulls and tear injuries.
  • Sprains and strains.
  • Repetitive strain injuries.
  • Dislocation and fracture recovery.
  • Whiplash and concussion recovery.

What do your ACC services include?

  • Multi-therapy approach to recovery (where required we use acupuncture, cupping, and other therapies all in one session to get that healing happening fast!)
  • Chinese medicine lifestyle and home-based treatment guidance to support recovery.
  • Accessible after-hours appointments.
  • Time to ensure adequate delivery of therapies required for optimal recovery support and clear communication so you understand what’s happening during treatment and how to help yourself at home.

What is required to make an appointment for ACC treatment?

  • You need an accepted claim for the injury your wanting to receive treatment for.  To get this a GP or Physio-therapist will have lodged a claim with ACC, of which ACC assess and accepts, and then has sent a letter to you to confirm the claim is accepted and that they will support treatment costs.

  • You need either your ‘ACC 45 number’ or your ‘claim number’. These numbers are allocated to identify you and your injury and will be sent to you in the letter from ACC confirming the claim is accepted. We need one of these numbers provided to us before the treatment date. If you are unsure, it is easy to get either of these numbers by calling ACC on 0800 101 996.

  •  The date of injury needs to have occurred within the past 12 months to access an appointment for acupuncture. After this time ACC does not cover the injury treatment cost for acupuncture unless it is of a very serous nature (e.g. amputated limb/life long disability etc). This means regardless of if the claim is still active, if it occurred more than 12 months prior it is not automatically subsidised by ACC and generally we cannot give treatment at the ACC treatment rate.
  • After booking with us we will e-mail you a short form to fill in regarding your injury. We will need you to complete this form and have it sent back prior to you receiving treatment on your booking date.

Please Note: ACC automatically funds an entitlement of 12 treatments of acupuncture and can only be received within the 12 months after the claim has been accepted. They can also only be received within the 3 months after the first acupuncture treatment has been taken (regardless of who the acupuncture provider was). 3 months after the first treatment has been taken ACC will no longer fund any unused  treatments of the 12 available. Please call us if you have any questions.
