How do I know which treatment I need?

During your initial appointment we will assess your sports injury, recovery stage or training needs.

Within the traditional Chinese framework we look at how your  body is coping with your current sports training (including previous injury or other potential limiting lifestyle factors) and work to incorporate this along side immediate recovery needs and any specific symptoms requiring treatment that day.

We will discuss our findings with you and advise a plan of treatment to work with your preferences, time and best health outcomes.

Our sports treatments and services.

Traditional Acupuncture

We utilise traditional style acupuncture in clinic to promote blood flow, relax tension in the muscle, stimulate lymphatic function and healthy immune response, and encourage the production of endogenous healing mediators in the tissue while suppressing pain signals.

Liniments & Plasters

Herbal products can be applied to the skin at the treatment site for absorption into deeper aching areas These can be taken home to support pain between clinic visits.
There is an interesting lineage of different topical herbal products used in martial arts training to support training and injury.

Gua Sha (Scraping Therapy)

Gua sha releases the production of nitric oxide in the area to provide pain relief. There is evidence that Gua sha also releases an endogenous, potent anti-inflammatory protein (heme-oxygenase-1) reducing inflammation locally without restricting local blood flow.

Cupping

Cupping is used for soft tissue rehabilitation. Promoting whole body relaxation, improving micro-circulation to the injured or recovering tissues. As a result of the marks made by cupping the body triggers an immune response which may aid regulate inflammation.

Moxibustion (Moxa)

Moxibustion (Moxa) is a heating treatment using the medicinal herb, Artemisia Vulgaris. Moxa can be given in the clinic and performed at home to support recovery. Moxa is used to support blood circulation, a healthy immune response in repair of damaged tissues, and to stimulate cellular metabolism.

"Ashi" Trigger Point & Dry needling

Ashi needling is different from using regular acupuncture points.
Some Ashi points are found at painful or active myo-fascial trigger points and motor points on muscles. Needling Ashi points can restore range of motion and strength within the targeted muscles.
