Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture

Results-driven traditional Chinese acupuncture for recovery and pain relief.

Supporting you through traditional Chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture (TCM) is a style of acupuncture that is suited to many health needs, especially for recovery and pain.

Points are chosen to reduce swelling, bruising, and inflammation. Promote blood flow, relax spasms, stimulate lymphatic function and immune response, and encourage the production of endogenous healing mediators in the tissue while suppressing pain signals.

We see many conditions in the clinic including trigger and motor point pain patterns, tenosynovitis, tendinopathy, contusion, muscle tears, hematoma, edema, arthritic conditions, bruising, disk impingement, paresthesia, sprain, strain, bursitis, tendonitis referred pain and scar regeneration.

What is TCM Style Acupuncture?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture is a holistic system of healthcare that has been developed and refined over thousands of years. Rather than looking only at symptoms, Chinese Medicine assesses how different systems of the body are functioning together and how lifestyle, stress, environment, and overall health may be contributing to imbalance.
Treatment focuses on supporting areas of weakness or dysfunction within the body to encourage recovery, resilience, and overall wellbeing.
During the first consultation, a detailed assessment is carried out using traditional diagnostic systems including Meridian Theory and the Eight Principles. Questions are asked about many aspects of health to build a complete picture of how the body is functioning.
The Eight Principles assessment explores patterns such as:

  • Hot or cold conditions
  • Internal or external patterns
  • Deficiency or excess states
  • Yin and Yang imbalance

To assess the Meridian systems, discussion may include:

  • Digestion and appetite
  • Sleep and energy
  • Stress, mood, and mental wellbeing
  • Lifestyle and work demands
  • Pain and physical symptoms
  • Respiratory and skin health
  • Vision, hearing, smell, and taste
  • Reproductive and women’s health
  • Urinary and genitourinary health
  • Current medications and medical diagnoses

This detailed approach allows treatment to be tailored to the individual, supporting not only the main concern but overall health and balance throughout the body

How can acupuncture help?

Acupuncture stimulates the secretion of natural healing proteins and immune factors within the body to encourage fast repair of injured tissue. It improves blood flow, reduces nerve activation to control pain, and prevents ongoing inflammation and swelling to enhance fast recovery.

Acupuncture also promotes the production of endorphins to help control the pain experience and create a deep sense of relaxation during and after treatment.

  • Reproductive Health

TCM acupuncture is often used to support reproductive health, including natural fertility, IVF, and assisted reproductive treatments. Treatment may also help support hormonal balance and overall reproductive wellbeing.

  • Women’s Health

Acupuncture is frequently sought for menstrual and hormonal concerns such as painful or heavy periods, irregular cycles, PMS, endometriosis, and PCOS. It is also used to support the body through hormonal changes after stopping contraceptives and during menopause.

  • Neurological Health

TCM acupuncture is often used to support neurological recovery and nervous system health. Conditions commonly treated include migraines, Bell’s palsy, post-stroke rehabilitation, shingles neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, and peripheral neuropathy.

  • Digestive Health

Chinese Medicine places strong importance on digestive function. Acupuncture may be used to support symptoms associated with IBS, gastritis, reflux and GERD, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, diverticulitis, and Crohn’s disease.

  • Immune and Inflammatory issues

Acupuncture may help regulate inflammation and support some symptoms of immune function in people experiencing autoimmune and inflammatory conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus.

  • Mental and Emotional Wellbeing

Treatment is commonly used to encourage relaxation and support emotional health. Acupuncture may assist with stress, anxiety, low mood, irritability, emotional overwhelm, and sleep disturbances such as insomnia.

  • Pain and Injury Management

TCM acupuncture is widely used for pain relief and injury recovery, including sports injuries and ACC-related conditions. Treatment may support muscle and joint pain, fibromyalgia, gout, chronic pain conditions, headaches, and migraines. Many people also use acupuncture alongside existing medical pain management plans to help improve comfort and quality of life.

Traditional acupuncture techniques can be used in clinic alongside other modern day needling techniques such as dry needling and trigger point needling depending on the patient’s needs.
